The research portion of my magazine was really useful in finding out information of what my target audience looks for in a magazine. For example, the questionnaire gave me the opportunity to see which magazines the audience were most attracted, and from this information I gathered that my target audience are more attracted to more minimalistic and simplistic magazines such as 'clash' and the newer style of 'nme' magazines. During the research portion, I also analysed many different genres of music magazines, this helped me to become familiar with different features used frequently for different genres. This was useful when I had decided the genre I was going to base my magazine on, as I was aware of the language to use, colours to include and overall style of magazine.
The audience research portion was the most useful aspect during my research as my magazine is targeted towards a specific audience, this audience needs to be attracted towards my magazine, and in order for them to feel attracted besides the visual aspect, they needed to be targeted by the language and articles. I discovered through magazine analysis that personal pronouns are often used to directly target the audience, for example using the word 'you' makes them feel as though the magazine is talking to them specifically and singling them out.
For the genre analysis I decided which two styles of magazines I preferred, I then analysed the two of them so I could attempt to replicate their style and vision as they are both magazines of the same genre who are targeted towards the same age group as I would like my magazine to be targeted towards. These two magazines became my inspiration when thinking about the cover, contents and double page spread I would like to create as I was intrigued by both of their styles as they are unique to the indie genre which is a niche genre as it is.
